Today marks the start of National Masturbation Month ~ 31 days dedicated to the pleasures of self-indulgence.

In May 1995, the lovely ladiez at Good Vibrations (a San-Francisco based sex toy and education company) declared May as National Masturbation Month. It all began on World AIDS day, in 1994, when the U.S. Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders was forced to resign because she said masturbation is a “part of human sexuality and part of something that perhaps should be taught.”

Masturbate-a-thons began in 1999, to raise money and awareness for sex-positive charities. In 2006, Londonheld the first European Masturbate-a-thon to raise money for the Terrance Higgins Trust and Marie Stopes International.

Since 2005, National Masturbation Month has climaxed with National Masturbation Day on May 28^th.
