'Beyond The Whip' at Sh! Hoxton
Sh! Hoxton is delighted to welcome Maria Coletsis with her exhibition of fetish portraiture Behind The Whip.
Maria Coletsis works with issues concerned with identity and sexuality. Her photography explores the subculture communities within our society. Since receiving her Master’s degree from the San Francisco Art Institute, she has exhibited her artwork in galleries around the world and has had her photography published in many international magazines and newspapers. Maria continues to investigate and photograph subculture themes. Her inquiry into London’s fetish scene has developed into a series of photographs which explores the role of the professional Dominatrix.
Behind the Whip is a multi-media project with portraits and interviews taken in the city and dungeon of each participating global Dominatrix. This series provides an intimate look at the women and dungeons which make up this subculture community. The photo essays discuss why they chose domination and how their services uniquely represent the city in which they work. This body of work will be available soon as a photography book.
