How to Alleviate Vaginal Dryness

Vulva Puppet -How to Alleviate Vaginal Dryness

Vaginal dryness is an issue for many women and vulva owners. Not only is dryness uncomfortable or even painful, but many feel their bodies are failing them if their vagina isn't producing enough moisture.

Listen, it's normal for the well to run dry. There are many causes of vaginal dryness. Let's look at some of them, and what you can do to alleviate it.

Let's talk about vaginal dryness

A customer recently told us she worries that her dryness might push her partner into the arms of a 'wetter woman.' (If so, he's not worth her time, but that is by the by.)

Vaginal dryness is very common. Most of us suffer from it at some point in our lives. But it's not talked about enough. A dry vagina doesn’t mean your sex life is over – far from it - but it does mean you need to add moisture. Luckily, we have tons of bottles piled up for such an occasion!

There are many reasons for a dry vagina:

  • Medication - Many cold medicines dry out your mucus membranes and not just in your nose! Anti-depressants & anti-anxiety drugs are also common culprits.
  • Tiredness - Getting enough zzz's is essential.
  • Stress - Stressing about 'not being wet enough' can create a vicious cycle.
  • Hormones - Where we are in our menstrual cycle can govern how wet we are that day.
  • Dehydration - Not drinking enough fluids, or sweating a lot.
  • Pregnancy, childbirth & nursing.
  • Age - Menopause has a lot to answer for...
  • Alcohol & drugs, especially cannabis.
  • Soap & bathing products - Disrupts the delicate pH of a healthy vagina.
  • Maybe you've had a long sesh and have run out of juices...

Vaginal moisturizing

Vaginal moisturizing sounds like something Gwyneth & Goop thought up to make an extra buck, but actually - it's a good idea.

If you find that your vagina is uncomfortable on the daily rather than mainly during sex, you may need some moisturizer.

YES VM is a moisturizer for the vag. This soft bio-adhesive gel is pH-matched to protect against irritation and helps keep you feeling comfortable. YES VM helps restore and stabilize the protective acidity of the intimate environment. Applying a small amount inside the vagina typically provides a moist vagina for up to 3 days.

However, YES VM is for daily comfort - you still need quality lube for sexy times.

Lube is a sensual addition

Lube is sexy.

  • Lube makes play sensual and slidey.
  • Lube makes your vulva & vagina so incredibly wet.
  • Lube makes the insertion of toys or fingers or penis much more comfortable.
  • Lube can change your sex life.

Keep a bottle by your bed and reach for a drizzle whenever the feeling takes you. Apply it generously!

We have met a shocking number of health professionals horrified at our suggestions of applying lube with fingers. They have suggested women should use applicators to avoid touching their genitals. Ignore this. There's no need for an applicator, unless this is yuor preferedmethod of applicaton. Your vulva & vagina is happy with fingers.

Different types of lube

Whether you actually ‘need’ lube or want to try it for fun, there are many options. We recommend plain lubes for everyday use, keeping fancy ones for special occasions.
