How to Use a Vibrator

How to Use a Vibrator

Despite mammoth choice in sex toys, the myth about "bigger being better" persists. This is why many people assume the way to use a vibrator is for internal pleasure only.

Seeing as most women & vulva owners need clitoral stimulation to orgasm, this is missing an important point. In fact, most women don't include internal play whilst masturbating but use their vibrators or fingers solely for clitoral stimulation.

Despite lots of magazine & TV sex advice, there's not enough information on how to actually use a vibrator.

Vibrators are erotic pleasure-givers

Whilst most of us prefer clitoral stimulation, it's important to remember that vibrators can be used in several ways. Actually, let's rephrase that. We are all different and have different sexual responses, so vibrators can be used in infinite ways.

Certainly, your trusty vibrator can give you guaranteed "this is how I always do it" orgasms. But alone or with a partner, it is never good to get stuck in a sexual rut.

True, we've divided all our vibrators into categories to help you choose. But try not to think of your vibrator solely as a clitoral vibrator, an internal vibrator or a G-Spot vibrator but as an erotic sex toy that can provide pleasure to many areas of the body.

So, allow yourself plenty of time to get used to your new vibrator. Put an evening aside to experiment. Lock the door, turn off the phone, and put up a Do Not Disturb sign.

And - prepare for your session. There's nothing worse than reaching for your vibrator, only to find it's out of power...

Vibrator prep

Is yours a rechargeable vibrator? Remember to put it on to charge in plenty of time before you want to play.

If it requires batteries, put fresh ones in, ensuring they are inserted correctly. Battery-operated vibrators won't work if the batteries aren't placed in the right +/- connectors. These are usually marked in tiny characters on the vibe itself, so grab your glasses or call us up for a run-through if you are having problems.

Another thing to note is that modern sex toys sometimes require you to press and hold the ON/OFF button for several seconds to activate the command.

The other essential to a fab vibrator session is a lubricant. However wet you get, a drizzle of lube on your vibrator will turn it into a super-sensual pleasure piece.

Ways to use a vibrator by yourself

  • Give your vibrator a full road test. Experiment with the different settings to find out which ones you prefer.
  • For multi-speed vibrators and those offering escalating and pulsing settings, start on the lowest setting and work your way up. The more aroused you become, the more stimulation you'll want.
  • Build anticipation. Run your vibrator along your whole body, trying out how it feels on your different erogenous zones, using your other hand to touch yourself too. Explore nipples, neck, inside of thighs...
  • Not ready for full-on clitoral stimulation, and your vibrator is already on its lowest setting? Place a towel or sheet between you and your vibe to soften the sensations.
  • Some women need intense clitoral stimulation; others find it more painful than pleasurable. The best way to discover your preferred kind of clitoral stimulation with a vibrator is to stimulate your vulva, vaginal opening and labia and see where it takes you.
  • Try combinations of vibrators. One clitoral, one internal or a dual pleasure vibe like a rabbit vibe. Using a butt plug simultaneously will give a sense of fullness and put pleasurable pressure on your G-Spot.
  • Try using a vibe with your other hand – it feels like someone else is pleasuring you!
  • Place your vibrator on a pillow and lie on top of it, rolling your hips sensually. This movement is really great for arousal and orgasm as it makes you naturally clench your PC muscle. This is also a good vibrator position if your hand becomes numb or tired from holding your vibrator.

How to use a vibrator with a partner

A vibrator can be a fun and exciting sexual accoutrement for couples. Just like using a vibrator during solo play, there are infinite ways to explore the pleasures it can give your combined erogenous zones.`

    Here are our top tips:

    • Holding a small vibe against the clitoris can help women have an orgasm during penetrative sex.
    • Feeling brazen? Put on a red-hot sex toy show! As women, we have been taught to be more reserved about masturbation - showing your partner how you do it can be super-liberating.
    • Hand the toy over to your partner and have them control the strength and direction of your toy. Letting go of the buzz will give you a different orgasm than the ones you give yourself.
    • Turn the vibrator on a male or penis-owning partner. The vibration feels good on penises too!
    • If either of you wants to explore anal play with a vibrator, your regular vibrator won't do. Things can get lost up the butt, so it's best to use an anal vibrator
