How the size, material and battery-power of a vibrator effects how quiet a vibe will be
Ouiet Vibrators: Why some people like their vibrator quiet.
While some folks are happy to swing from the chandeliers brandishing the buzziest vibrator they can find and screaming at the top of their lungs, for others, noise really is an issue. Whatever the reason is, whether you find a quiet vibrator to be less off putting, you don’t want your folks hearing, or your flatmates are a bit prudish, here at Sh! we cater for all preferences and provide a wide selection of vibrators : quiet and otherwise!
What do we mean by a quiet vibrator?
Obviously opinions of what constitutes a quiet vibrator varies from person to person, so to make life easy for our customers, in the Tech Spec box of each vibrator you'll find ‘Volume Rating’, to give you an accurate idea of what to expect noise-wise. The vibrator volume category ranges from "Almost Silent" right through to "Can't be heard over the stereo" (which will mask the sound of your vibe - though we are probably talking a good dance track here rather than Enja!)
All vibes are tested on fully-charged batteries and at full power so their volume rating is the worst you can expect! Turn down the vibration and the vibrator will get quieter. Generally most people would consider a quiet vibrator to be in the first two catorgories - either ‘Almost Silent’ or a ‘Slight Hum’.
What influences how quiet a vibrator is?
There are quite a few factors which can make the difference between a quiet vibrator and a not-so quiet vibrator. Firstly, the batteries a vibrator takes can affect noise levels. For example, the Original Jessica Rabbit Vibrator operates on quite large batteries (size C) - Jessica Rabbit is not a quiet vibrator, with a “Turn up the Music” rating! However, the LayaSpot Vibrator runs on relatively small AAA batteries, which shows in it’s pretty quiet vibrator with a “slight hum” rating.
The material a vibrator is made of can also affect how quiet it is. For example, the Leopard Print Vibrator is made from hard plastic, a material that doesnt absorb vibrations making it strong but not quiet. In contrast, the G-Swirl Booster Vibrator is made from noise-absorbing Silicone - so its a pretty quiet vibe.
Vibrator size can also influence how quiet a vibe will be as the vibration power doesn't need to be as strong. The Lurve Heart Vibrator with it tiny size only needs a small motor - its “Almost silent”, whereas the Thriller Rabbit Vibrator which requires a bigger motor and batteries to drive it, whilst fab for sensations is certainly not quiet!
Exceptions to the rules
Although there are basic guidelines which you can follow to help find yourself a quiet vibrator, there are always exceptions to the rules! For instance, the Esprit D'Amour Vibrator is quite small but not very quiet! Therefore the best advice we can give is to go by our volume ratings, as these will give a fairly good idea of what to expect!
