Advice on choosing the best personal lubricant for you.?
Lubricant: a substance (usually a liquid) introduced between two moving surfaces to reduce the friction and wear between them" This is the wiki definition of lubricant and how right it is!!
But there's more to buying a personal lubricant than buying a simple friction-reducer!
We know choosing a personal lubricant can be mind-boggling: How a lubricant feels, what it tastes like, how long it lasts and what it is made from are all important when it comes down to finding the best personal lubricant for you. The Sh! girlz want all your lubricant moments to always be "oooooo" never "eeuww!" so here's our lowdown on choosing the best lubricant that's personal to YOU.
What kind of activity do you mainly want your personal lubricant for?
For all kinds of vaginal sex and stimulation, use any water-based lubricant such as the uber popular Lush Lube or Liquid Silk. Most personal lubricant we stock are water-based, because they are the easiest to wash from the body. Every Water-based Lubricant is safe to use with Condoms and other latex barriers.
Super-long sex sessions and all kinds of anal pleasure may require a longer lasting personal lubrication to stay the distance and this is where a Silicone-based Lubricant or a thicker water-based lubricant like Maximus or Probe Classic Thick all have the staying power that's good for these times.
A Silicone Lubricant, though safe to use with condoms, can, over time, start to break down the surface of Silicone sex toys (caused by the 2 silicones reacting badly together...) so its advisable to stick to water-based formulas when raiding the toy-box.
How "natural" do you want your personal lubricant to be? The ingredients in certain personal lubricants can be irritating to some people, whereas others can cover themselves without a care, or itch, in the world. If you are particularly sensitive to allergic reactions, you'll want a really simple/natural lubricant; so check out Probe, O'My Natural Lube or Sliquid Lubricant. We highly recommend Probe Lubricant if you've found other personal lubes irritating in the past.
If you are particularly susceptible to thrush, however, you should try a glycerin-free personal lubricant such as Liquid Silk. Glycerin is a sugar and sugar exacerbates thrush. Generally we would not advise regularly using Silicone-based Lubes vaginally as they contain a (latex-safe) oil that can be tricky to wash from the delicate ph-balanced vagina and could create a haven for infection. Silicone lubricant are best for occasional use or anal pleasuring (the ass is not so sensitive to oils).
How do you want your personal lubricant to look, feel and taste?
Consistency: Probe has a clear, stringy, mucous-like texture that's pretty similar to our own girl juice.
Maximus is a thicker personal lubricant which is transparent and gel-like. As they start to dry, these personal lubes can become a little sticky, leaving a slightly gummy residue until washed away. All you have do to restore their slipperyness, all you have to do is add water - saliva or a squirt from a spray gun!
If such potential stickiness turns you off Lush Lube or Liquid Silk are 2 personal lubricants that don't dry up on the skin but absorb a bit like a moisturiser. Both have a milky, light texture and can be also used for massages that may turn intimate.
Taste:
Probe is pretty much taste-free. But as you would imagine, silicone-based lubes taste rather oily. Liquid Silk has a slightly bitter undercurrent. Whilst we wouldn't propose them for as a serious personal lubricant, Flavoured Lubes can add a delicious lickability to your amorous attentions.
Too many lube choices: A Lube Sample Kit which contains 6 sachets of different personal lubricant is a perfect choice, testing all the different lubes on offer before you commit to a whole bottle. They are also great for weekends away or to slip into your purse!
